The Coconut Creek High School basketball team was the first back in action in 2024, competing in two games.
The Cougars recorded their biggest win in their first game on Friday, with an 80-20 victory over Village Academy. Coconut Creek outscored their opponents 19-2 in the first quarter and led 48-6 at halftime. The Cougars allowed only 16 points in the second half and only four in the fourth quarter.
Tavares Holmes led the way with 28 points, while Zay Aliensy added 12. Panel Charles and Ijah Chin combine for 17, with Hinslee Prospere, Warren Noel, McKevan Bell, Jeremiah Ray, and Josh Smith all scoring for the team’s second win. The Cougars, though, fell 77-28 against Central High School on Saturday and head into their games this week with a record of 2-10.
Coconut Creek will play games this week against Plantation High School on Tuesday, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. before facing Pompano Beach High School on Thursday, January 11, at 7:30 p.m. Those two teams have combined to win 13 games this year.
The girls basketball team is 5-5 this year and will play their first game of 2024 against Deerfield Beach High School on Monday, January 8, at 6. p.m. They also have games against Plantation, Boyd H Anderson, and Pompano Beach High School this week.
The boys soccer team plays Fort Lauderdale High School on Monday, January 8 at 4 p.m. The Cougars will also play Northeast and Hallandale High School, recording a record of 4-3-2 this year. The girls soccer team will look for their first win on Tuesday, January 9, against Northeast High School at 4 p.m. before closing the regular season with a matchup against Hallandale on Thursday, January 11, at 5 p.m.
After his incredible year, Elijah Cannon of the Coconut Creek football team was named to the 2024 Warren Henry Auto Group All-South Florida Team. The Mississippi State signee led the Cougars to a District Championship and a record of 10-3.
