A Coconut Creek Police officer was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Palm Beach County on March 15, court records show.
Laurence Anthony Christopher, 58, was arrested by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies after a witness said he spotted Christopher asleep at a green light inside a Ford F-350 in Royal Palm Beach and later saw him swerving and speeding, an arrest affidavit states.
The witness told authorities he had tried knocking on the pickup truck’s window to wake Christopher but that Christopher fled when he heard the witness’ passenger phoning police, records state.
The witness later helped authorities locate the pickup truck and showed cellphone footage of Christopher’s alleged drunk driving to deputies, according to the affidavit.
According to the report, a PBSO deputy smelled alcohol when Christopher stepped out of the truck. He had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and staggered as he walked, the affidavit states.
Christopher declined a field sobriety test as well as a breath test, according to the document.
Scotty Leamon, spokesman for the Coconut Creek Police Department, issued a statement stating that the police department “is aware that the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office arrested Coconut Creek Police Officer Laurence Christopher on March 15, 2024, on a misdemeanor charge of DUI.”
