Coconut Creek Police awarded $2,000 in scholarships to four outstanding high school seniors as part of its Do the Right Thing initiative.
At the May 23 commission meeting, Monarch High School graduate Jessenia Almanzar earned a DTRT scholarship in April for her positive impact on the school.
Almanzar was the Student Government Association president and active in the Coconut Creek Police Explorers program. She plans to enroll in Santa Fe College in Gainesville this fall, according to Scotty Leamon, public safety information officer for the Coconut Police Department.
Diana Dakmak, a graduate of Monarch High School, was a member of the Coconut Police Explorers and enjoyed helping teachers at the school.
She earned more than 300 service hours and believes it is important to defend people who cannot defend themselves. Dakmak will attend Nova Southeastern University this fall, according to Leamon.
Kaylee Hamilton, a graduate of Monarch High School, won the DTRT scholarship in November 2022.
According to Leamon, she helped restore model train cars for children at Tradewinds Park and will attend Keiser University in the fall.

According to Leamon, to earn a scholarship, a student must have won a previous DTRT award, apply, and be a current senior at a high school in Coconut Creek.
