The Parkland chapter of Moms Demand Action is sponsoring a blood drive where those who donate qualify to receive a free COVID-19 antibody test.
The blood drive is in honor of Gun Violence Prevention Week.
Moms Demand Action is a grassroots organization that fights for public safety measures that protect people from gun violence. They work to pass common-sense gun laws and close loopholes that put the safety of American families at risk.
The One Blood drive is scheduled to take place On Saturday, June 6, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Riverstone Shops 7271 N. State Road 7 Parkland, FL 33073
Also, those who donate will receive a free wellness check-up. This includes an iron test and cholesterol screening, as well as a free OneBlood T-shirt.
Organizers of the blood drive ask those who attend to wear orange as a symbol that we together can stop future gun violence, a crime that, according to Moms Demand Action, kills more than 100 Americans every day and wounds countless others.
According to Stacey Wesch, the Wear Orange State Lead for Moms Demand Action, the blood drive has a two-fold goal this year; raising gun violence awareness and helping citizens receive their COVID-19 antibody test.
Wesch says the FDA approves the antibody test given, and donors will have their results back fast.
“Donors will be able to see their results approximately 48 hours after donating by logging into their donor portal at www.oneblood.org,” Wesch said.
Wesch says donors and staff will be required to wear masks. Donors are encouraged to bring their face masks, but one will be provided if needed.
Due to the social distancing measures, OneBlood is asking that all donors make an appointment to reduce the number of people around the donation site. There will be two busses present at the drive, and no more than two patients donating will be permitted on each bus at a time.
