The Monarch High School boys’ soccer team started their season with a huge 3-1 win over Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Monday.

This was also the first win for Monarch’s Head Coach, Eric Swickle, who is in his first year with the Knights.

“It feels awesome beating a great team and district opponent like Douglas,” said Swickle. “It’s nice to have the pressure off our back for at least a few days.”

Santiago Luna had two goals, and Daniel Nogeura had one in the win. Monarch initially had a 1-0 lead, but after MSD tied it, the Knights scored two goals in the second half to win their first game.

The rest of the team consists of Alexander Jimenez, Jose Comella, Jaden Chill, Arthur Medina, Albert Deoliveira, Ruddy Augusto, Luca Napoleone, Joseph Margallanes, Brandon Amaral, Luke McCluskey, Hugo Laidera, Pedro Bernardino, Daniel Arroja, Alexander Martinuzzi, Yuri De Franca, Atilla Kovacs, Gavin Valencia, Marco Tuestra, Juan Marmolejo, Marcelo Fritsch, Luca Lopez, Victor Ramos, Matheus Martini and Diego Barrera.

Next, the Knights will play Coral Springs Charter on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. Monarch won 6-0 in last year’s meeting and finished the season with a record of 15-4-1.
