In an exciting athletic week, North Broward Prep held Senior Night for the track and field and baseball teams while also producing a tennis District Champion.
The Eagles honored Grant Depenbrock, Martin Palencia, Vladimir Semenov, Bella Cielo, and Logan Saland from the track and field team. NBP also won their dual match against FAU High School. The boys scored 56 points, and Jayden Smith won the high jump and the long jump. Christoper Baker and Anthony Maestre won races, while Eric Kontos took first in the javelin.
The girls team had 66 points, with Ivory Edgecomb winning the 100 and 200 meters. Ella Munoz took first in the long jump and triple jump while Chelsea Ventura took first in the high jump. Kaiden O’Neil and Alexa Schwartz also finished first in their event as the team gets set for the District Championship.
The baseball team had a memorable week highlighted by senior night, where they honored Riley Luft, Gian De Castro, Ryan McPherson, Thomas Gramesty, Mateo Gray, AJ Cutler, Nikolas Koorse, Nick Soloman, and Boyde Bryant. The Eagles then went on to win 11-2 over Pembroke Pines Charter.
Bryant made the start for the fifth-ranked team in the country, pitched two strong innings, and did not allow an earned run. N Hernandez came in for relief and picked up the win with four scoreless innings before Luft closed the game out
Gray led the offense with three RBIs, while Max Burkholz knocked in two. Grammasty, De Castro, Luft, and Cutler all plated one to help the Eagles improve to 18-3. Next, NBP will play Mater Lakes Academy at 11 a.m. The Bears are 13-9 and on a five-game winning streak.
The Eagles also received a tremendous pitching performance from eighth grader Madden Resnick, who struck out 19 during a no-hitter for the middle school baseball team
Max Freedman won the District Championship in singles and will compete in the State Championship from April 29 to May 1. The team will play Pine Crest School on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.
