With the high school sports season wrapping up, several student-athletes in Coconut Creek competed in All-Star Games and also received awards.
Sidney Lewinsky and Zach Mason of Monarch High School each signed to play college basketball. Lewinsky will be playing at Elmira College after averaging 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. The Knights went 7-11 a season ago as Lewinsky is set to play for a team that also won seven games during their college basketball season. Mason is signed with South Florida Bible College, played in 17 games this past year, and had a season-high of seven points against Deerfield Beach High School.
The Monarch flag football team featured Saniah White, Layla Levy, and Alexandria Taylor, who competed following a season in which the Knights won six games, including a playoff game against Coral Glades. White and Taylor played wide receiver, while Levy was a star on the defensive side of the ball.
Emmy Phipps was selected from the softball team. The Knights went 12-11 this year and qualified for Regionals, while Phipps hit .419 with a home run, 17 RBIs, two doubles, and eight triples. Monarch also had their Brian Piccolo nominee, which is named after the late NFL player, and recognized senior athletes for their outstanding achievements in football, academics, and community service.
La’Tasija Bruton and D’Kayla Parfait were chosen as All-Stars for the Coconut Creek flag football team. The Cougars had six wins, including one in the postseason against Coral Springs High School. Robins Fleury Jr. and Nolan Anderson were from the boys volleyball team. Coconut Creek went 3-9 this year and had wins against Stranahan, Atlantic, and Coral Springs High School. Jeremiah Accius, Adelaida Crucera-Castro, Benjamin Diverna, and Naomi Headley were named Scholar Athletes.
North Broward Prep also recognized the top athletes, with Brian Pine and Alexa Schwartz being named Athlete of the Year. Pine led the hockey team in goals as they won their fourth straight State Championship. Schwartz shined in the javelin, winning a second consecutive State Championship. Danylyo Baniochuk was the male residential athlete of the year after his success in soccer, while Sumayyah Brown also shone for the girls’ soccer team.
Other winners featured Ivory Edgecomb (Athletic Director Award) and Matthew Routman (Elise Scoff Impact). Alex Pavon (Performance of the Year), Josh Shank (Golden Mic), Max Burkholz (Perseverance), Eva Piskun (Service Award ), Kiernan O’Neil (Eagle Award), Marianna Lander (Sportsmanship Award, Anthony Maestre and Madison Easton (Ironman Award), Jensen Rauch and Sammy Edelson (Foundation Award).
