A Parkland man has been charged with battery after deputies said he repeatedly slapped and punched his victim, according to court papers.
Mitchel Zelman, 41, of Cypress Head, was arrested Oct. 3 after he allegedly struck the female victim “numerous times” as she sat on the toilet, according to an arrest affidavit filed by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told deputies Zelman “slapped [her] across the face several times with an open hand,” then “proceeded to punch the victim in [her] face numerous times,” the affidavit states.
The beating bloodied her nose, which may have been broken by the blows, according to BSO.
Zelman told deputies he was defending himself. He said his victim attacked him first and slapped his face numerous times, but “there were no injuries consistent with his statement,” deputies wrote.
The victim, whose name is being withheld, was taken to West Boca Medical Center for treatment for her injuries.
Zelman was taken to the BSO Main Jail and released on a $1,000 bond, records show.
He has pleaded not guilty to the battery charge.
