A man wanted for allegedly throwing a brick into his ex-girlfriend’s window, vandalizing her vehicle, and making death threats, has been apprehended and now faces an array of felony charges.
On July 15, the Coconut Creek Police Department received a report from a victim that alleged her ex-boyfriend, later identified as Careca Caballero, 35, of Margate, had targeted her residence and vehicle in a violent outburst that included throwing a brick into her home through her daughter’s window.
According to the police report, the victim told officers she woke up to a loud and violent noise in her bedroom.
The victim recounted how she immediately jumped up to check the sound and discovered shattered glass all over her bed, floor, and her daughter’s bed, as well as a square brick lying on her daughter’s bed.
The victim told officers she quickly called 911 when she heard someone attempting to break into her apartment by repeatedly kicking the front door, and after looking through the peephole, recognized the person outside as her ex-boyfriend, Careca Conrad Caballero.
After being unable to break the door, the victim told officers Caballero fled the scene, but not before causing severe damage to her vehicle, parked nearby, by smashing the windshield and ripping off the side mirrors using a large brick.
During the investigation, the arrest warrant showed that surveillance footage obtained from a nearby home security camera revealed a black male matching the description of Careca approaching the victim’s Honda.
The footage captured Careca kicking the side mirrors and violently throwing the brick onto the vehicle’s hood, causing a loud sound that set off the neighboring car’s alarm system.
In the aftermath of the incident, the victim reported receiving over 60 phone calls from an anonymous and blocked number, one of which included a chilling threat to her life.
According to the victim, the voice of Caballero could be heard on one of the voicemails saying, “I’m going to kill you.”
During their investigation, authorities learned that Caballero and the victim had been in a tumultuous relationship, leading to previous incidents of abuse and violence.
In one instance, on October 31, 2021, the victim reported that he had spat on her face and physically assaulted her.
According to the victim, her recent decision to end their relationship, which she communicated to Caballero when he was released from prison on June 1, led to his violent attack.
Records show Cabellero was last arrested in June on stalking charges.
On July 16, Caballero was located near the 5400 block of Northwest 27th Street and taken into custody.
He was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail. He is currently still held on a $21,000 bond.
