Distracted driving is a safety problem for teenagers.
To educate young drivers on the danger of not paying attention while driving, Sarah Morales, 16, is creating an event to show the consequences of an accident.
It takes place on Thursday, April 3, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Donaldson Park and Rowe Activity Center, at 900 NW 43 Avenue in Coconut Creek.
The Coconut Creek Police Department will participate in the event, featuring a distracted driving simulator. It is being referred to as “Stay Focused, Stay Safe, Have You Got What It Takes.”
Morales, of Parkland and a junior at Pine Crest School, is the founder of the teen driving safety program Safe Drives Save Lives. She wants her peers to be careful behind the wheel and realize that texting and driving can lead to accidents.
“I want to bring more awareness to distracted driving by teenagers and give them a simulated real-life driving experience,” said Morales.
