The playoffs were officially underway in Coconut Creek with three teams playing on Friday night.
Monarch, who entered the playoffs as the third seed after finishing 6-4 during the regular season, beat Doral Academy 39-0. This is the fourth straight year the Knights have won a playoff game as Florentino Lopez threw for 390 yards and four touchdown passes.
Jabari Brady caught three of them and had 209 receiving yards, while Bryan Bynes had four catches for 64 yards and one score. Keshawn Paschall also ran for two touchdowns while Lopez led the team with 74 yards on the ground.
Next, Monarch will play second-seeded West Broward High School after knocking off seventh-seeded South Plantation High School. The Bobcats went 8-2 this year and suffered their only losses to Corner Canyon and Camden County High in their first two games.
Coconut Creek High School also advanced, beating Mater Academy Charter in their first playoff game. The Cougars earned the fourth seed after going 8-2 during the regular season. Next, they will play top-seeded S6. Thomas Aquinas High School, following their win over eighth-seeded Heritage High School. The Raiders went 9-1 this year and had their only loss to Mater Dei High School in week one. St. Thomas is currently the second-ranked team in Florida and 14th best in the country.
North Broward Prep grabbed the final spot in the postseason, but was knocked off by top-seeded Cardinal Mooney High School. Sammy Kovari threw for 74 yards, while Tanner Gillman caught five passes for 60. Yephaniah Brammer had the lone touchdown as the Cougars came into the game as the ninth-ranked team in the state and 83rd nationally after losing only one game during the regular season against Cherry Creek High School.
The Eagles, though, finished the season 5-6 after previously defeating Westminster Academy, Pembroke Pines Charter, Somerset Academy Key, St. John Paul II, and Coral Springs Charter.
