Coconut Creek teams shined in football this week, with three recording a win.
Coconut Creek High School won 34-6 against Piper High School to start 2-0. The Cougars previously beat Miramar High School in their first game and will play Western High School in their next game on Friday, September 5, at 7 p.m. The Wildcats were shut out 18-0 in their first game of the season against Plantation High School. However, they sent 6-7 a season ago and rank 36th in the state.
Monarch High School recorded its first win of the season, beating Deerfield Beach High School 48-10. The game was played on Saturday after the weather postponed their matchup on Friday night and featured Jaboree Riggins recording two touchdown catches. Jabari Brady hauled in one while Chris Davis picked off a pass and returned it for six. Monarch also had Keshawn Paschall score rushing touchdowns, along with one from Florentino Lopez. He also added two passing scores while Jeremiah Milcent tossed one.
The Knights are 1-1 this year after losing their first game to Bolles High School and will play Don Brosco Prep in their next game on Friday, September 5, at 7 p.m. They rank as the second-best team in New Jersey and 140th in the nation, winning their opening game of the season against Melissa High School out of Texas.
North Broward Prep won 31-14 over Westminster Academy. The game was also scheduled to be played on Friday, but was pushed back to Saturday at 9 a.m. after the Eagles won 31-14. The Eagles previously lost 21-0 in their first game of the season and went 4-6 last year. After losing their first five games, NBP won four of their last five games, defeating Somerset Academy Key, St. John Paul II Academy, Coral Springs Charter, and Pine Crest.
Next, they will play Pembroke Pines Charter on Thursday, September 4, at 6 p.m. The Jaguars are 2-0 this year and have beaten Northeast and Coral Springs Charter. They also won 55-33 in their lone matchup last year.
