
Coconut Creek High School Boys Soccer Team. {CC Athletics}
High school soccer has entered the postseason, with teams battling to keep their State Championship hopes alive.
The Coconut Creek High School soccer team captured its second consecutive District Championship, continuing a strong postseason run. The Cougars entered the playoffs as the third seed and earned a bye in the opening round before defeating Atlantic High School 4–2 in the semifinals. Cemari Brown led the attack with two goals, while Herdy Clermont and Mike Milford each added one.
Coconut Creek then edged Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School 1–0 in the District Final to secure its 11th win of the season on a goal from Clevice Joseph.
The Cougars are seeded fifth in Regionals and will travel to Pembroke Pines Charter on Friday, February 6, at 7 p.m.The Jaguars are 8-5-3 this season and fell 2–0 to Archbishop McCarthy High School in the District Championship after previously defeating McArthur High School.
The winner will face either Archbishop McCarthy or Mater Academy Charter in the next round. On the opposite side of the bracket, South Fork will meet Dr. Joaquin Garcia, while Jensen Beach faces North Miami High School.
The North Broward Prep girls team also claimed a District Championship, opening postseason play with a bye after finishing the regular season 14-1-3. Seeded second, the Eagles defeated Florida Atlantic University High School 3–0 in the semifinals behind goals from Kaylee Forcione, Jayda Palumbo, and Kaidin O’Neil.
NBP followed with a 2–1 victory over Somerset Academy Canyons in the district final. Jayda Palumbo recorded a goal and an assist, Natalie Benitez added a goal, and Kaidin O’Neil contributed an assist. Goalkeeper Xoie Brown made 13 saves in net.
The Eagles are the second seed in Regionals and will host American Heritage High School on Monday, February 2, at 6 p.m. The Stallions finished 7-7-1, defeating Glades Central before falling 6–0 to Somerset Academy Canyons. The winner will advance to face either Bishop Verot or Aubrey Rogers, while Somerset Academy Canyons, Lake Placid, Cardinal Mooney, and FAU High School also qualified for Regionals.
The North Broward Prep boys team saw its season end with a 2–1 loss to American Heritage High School in the Semifinals, finishing the year 7-8-2.
The Monarch High School boys team fell 1–0 to Deerfield Beach High School in the District Final. Monarch had earned postseason victories over Olympic Heights Community High School and Boyd H. Anderson High School after posting an 11-3-4 regular-season record to claim the top district seed.
The Monarch High School girls team defeated Deerfield Beach High School 1–0 in the semifinals, with Angelina Shamanaeva scoring the lone goal on an assist from Angelino Pirelo. The Knights then fell 3–0 to Fort Lauderdale High School in the District Final, finishing the season 8-10-1.
While the Coconut Creek High School girls’ team did not finish their season after multiple forfeits to begin the year, goaltender Tyqana Pearman has signed with St. Thomas University. The Bobcats are coming off a season where they went 10-4-5.
