The impressive run by Coconut Creek athletics continued with a wave of commitments and awards.
Coconut Creek High School football standout Keon Dacceus announced his commitment to the University of Chicago. A 2023 graduate, Dacceus played on the offensive line and enjoyed a strong senior season before beginning his college career at Florida Memorial University.
During his two seasons at FMU, Dacceus appeared in 15 games, helping the Lions win nine total contests. His performance earned him First Team All–Sun Conference honors. He now joins a University of Chicago program that has captured 28 NCAA Division III championships since 1986 and produced multiple national players of the year.
At Monarch High School, Melvin Puckett officially signed with Akron University, joining former Monarch teammates Jaborree Riggins and Lorvens Barthelemy. A 2023 graduate, Puckett played a key role in Monarch’s second consecutive district championship and the first regional title in school history. Puckett began his college career at Bethune-Cookman University, where he helped the Wildcats reach a bowl game this past season. He now transfers to an Akron program that won five games a year ago.
Meanwhile, Jabari Brady was named to the Warren Henry Automotive Group 28th Annual All–South Florida Football Team. The University of Missouri signee caught 64 passes for 1,118 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season. His breakout performance came in the opening round of the postseason, when he totaled 209 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a win over Doral Academy. Brady finished his high school career as the first player in school history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, after also posting 10 touchdowns as a junior.
On the volleyball court, North Broward Prep celebrated a historic season. First-year head coach Brian Coughenourwas named Florida Dairy Coach of the Year, while Dasia Johnson earned Florida Dairy Player of the Year honors. Coughenour led the Eagles to the first state championship in school history, finishing the season 26–2.
NBP’s only two losses came during tournament play, as the Eagles also captured District and Regional championships. The program produced several college commitments, including Josh Nwon, who has signed with UMBC.
Johnson, the conference Player of the Year, led the team with 326 kills in 80 sets, including 23 kills in the State Championship match. She also paced the team with 40 blocks, finished second with 58 aces, and added 228 digs, including 13 in her final match.
The North Broward Prep hockey team also made a deep run, reaching the finals of the NAPHL Showcase 18U Division. The Eagles opened the tournament with one-goal victories over the Capital Flames and Texas Heat, then earned a 6–4 win in their final round-robin game. NBP advanced past the St. Louis Sting with an 11–4 semifinal victory before falling 7–4 to the Midwest Blackbirds in the championship game. They return to action on Saturday, January 24, against Marjory Stoneman Douglas. NBP has won the last four State Championships and will begin its quest for a fifth on February 18.
The North Broward Prep boys basketball team also won the Palm League Championship following a 56-52 win over St. Andrews in overtime to improve to 23-1 this year. They had beaten Ramson Everglades and Miami County Day High School earlier in the tournament.
