Monarch and Coconut Creek Football Gear Up for Showdown: JV Football and Volleyball Teams Face Off

Fall Sports in Coconut Creek. {Matt Rothman}

Monarch and Coconut Creek High School were both in action this week, with their fall sports teams continuing their seasons.

The two schools faced off in volleyball and junior varsity football, with the Knights winning both matchups. Monarch’s volleyball team went 3-0 this week to improve to 11-1, including a dominant win over Coconut Creek, 25-9, 25-9, 25-6.

The Knights also defeated Coral Glades and Deerfield Beach High School and will play South Plantation High School on Wednesday, September 30, at 6 p.m.

Coconut Creek closed its regular season with a matchup against Northeast High School. Jesuany Rodriguez was the Cougars’ lone senior this season, while their lone victory came against Blanche Ely High School.

The Monarch JV football team defeated Coconut Creek 8-6. After dropping their season opener against St. Thomas Aquinas High School, the Knights responded with wins over Blanche Ely, J.P. Taravella and Coconut Creek. The Cougars fell to 0-2 after previously losing to Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School.

At the varsity level, Monarch defeated Deerfield Beach High School 26-7 in its homecoming game Friday. Jeremiah Milcent threw two touchdown passes to Bryan Bynes, while Anthony Williams added two rushing touchdowns. The Knights improved to 3-2 and will face Coconut Creek High School next Friday, October 2, at 7 p.m. The Cougars enter the matchup at 4-1 after defeating Boyd H. Anderson High School 55-12.

In cross country, Logan Pomeroy placed 28th for Monarch, followed by Jeffrey Mattieu and Isaac Pierce. Justin Cruz Garcia and Tramway Grace competed for Coconut Creek. Monarch’s girls and boys swimming teams both defeated Northeast, highlighted by third-place finishes from the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay and boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay. Olivia Smith and Raphael Meneghin also recorded notable individual finishes.

The Monarch boys golf team also competed against J.P. Taravella in a recent match, highlighted by Nathan Zolonowski tying for first place with a 39. Brody Reavis finished fifth with a 46, while Jacob Weiner, Bradley Dodge and Emilio Navarro also competed for the Knights.
