A Coconut Creek man was arrested Thursday for stealing a car from a family while they were out of town on vacation — shortly after they’d hired him to work on their home, authorities said.
Robert Hauselt, 39, had been doing work on the family’s home in the 4000 block of Northwest 4th Street and allegedly took their car keys from inside, according to Coconut Creek Police.
Hauselt allegedly stole the victims’ car after they left town, police said.
On Thursday morning, police said they were called to the family’s home to investigate the theft after a male family member of the victims found the car missing from the home’s driveway and called 911.
Police said they found Hauselt driving the car several hours later.
Hauselt was charged with grand theft auto, home burglary, and driving with a suspended license, police said. He was booked into the Broward County Jail.
Additional information about the case, including bond information for Hauselt, was not immediately available Thursday.
