Jeffrey Wasserman is the new mayor of Coconut Creek.
He was elected by his fellow commissioners during a commission meeting on March 26. Wasserman, who had been serving as vice mayor, was the only individual nominated for mayor and said he looked forward to leading the commission.
A lifelong educator, Wasserman was elected to the commission in March 2023. He has a passion for combining civics and education and encourages students to learn about city government.
Wasserman’s goals included encouraging business development in South Creek, preserving green space, and developing MainStreet in a smart way. According to the Coconut Creek website, he is married to Kristin and has a daughter, Olivia.
Brodie had previously been serving as a commissioner before his election as vice mayor.
In April 2022, the commission appointed Brodie as commissioner to represent District D. He was elected commissioner on March 14, 2023. A resident of Coconut Creek for more than 25 years, Brodie has coached soccer and flag football and led two non-profit organizations: Coconut Creek Girls Softball and Coconut Creek Crush Softball. Brodie works for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
A disabled combat veteran of the U.S. Army, Brodie hosts an annual 9-11 tribute event honoring police and fire departments. He is married to Kerry, and they have two adult children and a grandson, according to the city website.
