Changes are coming to Coconut Creek Elementary School.
The school has been renamed Coconut Creek Academy of Excellence K-8 and will begin serving sixth graders next year, followed by grades seven and eight the year after. According to Stephanie Futscher, assistant principal, most of the sixth graders will remain until they finish the eighth grade.
“We want to be able to give students their entire educational experience in Coconut Creek,” said Futscher.
Coconut Creek will offer the Cambridge International program to students who want a rigorous academic program.
Also, the Coconut Creek school earned first place in the “How Low Can You Go?” Challenge for the greatest water reduction. The school reduced water usage by 63 percent, saving 240,000 gallons.
Students were encouraged to bring water bottles from home, and the cafeteria used a premixed cleaning solution that included water to clean tables and sanitize items.
“We reduced water pressure and fixed leaks around the campus,” said Futscher.
Coconut Creek was honored during a recent Heat game and received a banner for their efforts.
