Coconut Creek will hold a Holocaust Remembrance event with special exhibitions: a Holocaust Cattle Car and a Public Art Unveiling on January 29.
The Hate Ends Now Cattle Car Exhibition will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Guests step inside an authentic replica of a World War II cattle car, where survivor testimony, narration, and multimedia elements illustrate the inhumane conditions endured by millions of victims. The exhibit encourages reflection, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of the consequences of hatred, antisemitism, and intolerance, reinforcing the importance of remembrance and education.
It will be on display in the Coconut Creek Government Center courtyard at 4800 West Copans Road. Advanced registration is required, with viewings scheduled every 30 minutes. Time slots must be reserved at CoconutCreek.gov/CattleCar, according to Yvonne Lopez, spokesperson for Coconut Creek.
The Holocaust Memorial Sculpture Unveiling will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will be the city’s first public art installation at the Government Center. It is a sculpture by renowned artist Marit Meisler.
Titled Generations, the 10-foot sculpture is inspired by the Kindertransport. It serves as a powerful tribute to the resilience and enduring spirit of the Jewish people in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
The work features silhouettes of children cut from solemn steel, directly referencing the children depicted in the Kindertransport memorials created by the artist’s father, Frank Meisler. This portion of the event is also available only to advanced registrants, and seating is limited to 200. To register for the unveiling, call 954-956-1580, according to Lopez.
During the January 8 commission meeting, City Manager Sheila Rose said the exhibition will be a significant event.
