Coconut Creek is making progress toward building a new Fire Station 113.
During the January 8 meeting, the commission passed a resolution to approve an agreement with the James Pirtle Construction Company for phase 1 pre-construction services for Fire Station 113 and the Fire Administration building.
A new permanent station is needed at this location to serve the MainStreet area and to replace the temporary trailer located just south of Wiles Road and east of State Road 7. The city’s fire administration staff is now working out of leased office space and needs a permanent facility.
The city owns a vacant ten-acre parcel of land along Cullum Road, and the new fire station and administration building will be constructed on a section of this land, according to City Manager Sheila Rose.
Commissioner John Brodie is pleased that work is closer to beginning on the site and believes Pirtle will provide a good service. “This is the beginning phase, and there are still many tasks that must be done,” he said.
