State Representative Christine Hunschofsky (D-Parkland)
Rep. Christine Hunschofsky (D-Parkland) led a town hall meeting at Coconut Creek City Hall on Tuesday evening, where she reported on the bills that she introduced in the legislature and the items that were passed into law.
She said that despite significant political divisions, the overall atmosphere of the legislative session was respectful.
“I believe we should respect one another even if we have differences. You don’t know what people are going through or the experiences that have shaped them,” she said.
With the passing of the 2025-25 state budget, Hunschofsky was able to secure $6,068,232 in appropriation funding for programs within District 95 and Broward County. Now, it is up to Gov. Ron DeSantis to approve the budget, and city commissioners hope their projects will receive state funding.
Coconut Creek is scheduled to receive $800,000 for advanced metering infrastructure. The upgrade will enable the city to proactively monitor and address leaks, reduce water loss, and mitigate financial impacts for residents of Coconut Creek and Parkland. According to city information, this will result in greater transparency for residents, lower costs, and more efficient operations.
“This will allow us to monitor water meters more effectively and is something the city needs,” said Commissioner John Brodie.
The city may also receive $200,000 for the rehabilitation of the Fleet Services Building, which houses and services emergency response and maintenance vehicles. The project will strengthen and harden the building against storms.
“We need to repair the roof and make other improvements to the building,” said Brodie.
The Junior Achievement Youth Workforce program, based in Coconut Creek, is targeted to receive $1,097,232 for its expansion, according to Hunschofsky.
