Coconut Creek community members got together at Sabal Pines Park to enjoy the Fall Harvest Festival on November 15.
They enjoyed live music from Six After Midnight, the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, and a line-dancing lesson. Local vendors offered various treats, and there was a wide variety of food trucks. There were multiple activities for children, including slides, games, and crafts.
The Women’s Club of Coconut Creek was selling 2026 calendars with photos of the men and women of the fire department. “We are selling these calendars to raise money to provide scholarships to pay for people to attend the fire academy,” said club President Laura McDermott Matheric.
Members of the Monarch High School Key Club helped set up and take down the festival. “We enjoyed being a part of this event. We all worked together to bring it together,” said Paula Olivera.
There was a wide variety of treats available. Mimi Yehya of Mimi’s Cookiez offered a variety of cookies and brownies. “I love being a part of this festival, and people love our cookies,” said Yehya.
The Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show offered a fun history lesson. The man running the show said lumberjacks felled the trees that were used to build ships to bring people to the United States and houses for them to live in. The performers competed in axe-throwing and lumber-cutting competitions.
“I was part of the Woodsman team at the University of New Hampshire, and we took our competitions seriously,” said Melissa DeMetri, one of the performers. “I loved being a part of this festival, and the people here are great.”
Those who wanted to get some exercise could take a line dancing lesson offered by the city recreation department.
City Manager Shiela Rose said, “This was a nice community event. The weather was perfect, and families were having a good time,” she said.
