Marjory Stoneman Douglas Running Back AJ Darring Commits to College

After a tremendous high school career, running back AJ Darring of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas football team becomes the next Eagle to commit to playing in college.

He will be attending Allegheny College in Pennsylvania after spending his senior year on the varsity team. Despite only playing in two games, Darring said, “It was my best experience playing football even with a two-game season.”

In those games, Darring rushed 27 times for 236 yards and scored a touchdown. Before that, Darring played for Booker T. Washington High School, where he won a State Championship.

Darring grew up playing many sports but did not start playing tackle football until fifth grade. His first team was the Miami Redskins before joining American Heritage from sixth to ninth grade.

“I’m just excited that AJ is going to get an opportunity at the next level,” said Head Coach Quentin Short. “His effort in the classroom and on the field has given him this great opportunity.”

Darring will be joining a program in Allegheny that had their season canceled in 2020 due to COVID:19 and won ten games from 2018-2019.
