Authorities are searching for the person who stabbed a male victim at Winston Park and Nature Trail Saturday night, leaving him seriously injured, according to Coconut Creek Police.
Investigators believe the suspect stabbed the victim at 4:16 p.m. and ran into the woods afterward. Police from Coconut Creek, Margate, Coral Springs, and a Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter were searching for the attacker.
“At this point, we believe this incident was not random,” Coconut Creek Police said on X.
A large perimeter was set up around the nature preserve at 5201 Northwest 49th Avenue, police said.
The victim was flown to Broward Health “for treatment of serious injury,” the department said. He remained in the hospital Saturday night.
Police did not provide a description of the suspect. They said people living in the area should call 911 if they see or hear anything suspicious.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, Coconut Creek Police said the search of the woods was over and the stabbing suspect was not in the searched area.
Police said they were processing the crime scene while investigators worked to track the assailant down.
On Sunday, Coconut Creek officials said Winston Park and Nature Trail was closed due to the investigation.
The victim remained in Broward Health while receiving treatment Sunday, police said.
“Detectives are working very hard on this case, as this continues to be an active investigation,” police said on Facebook Sunday.
Anyone with information is asked to call Coconut Creek Police at 954-973-6700.
