Marjory Stoneman Douglas Girls Cross Country Advances to State Championship

For the first time since 2018, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls cross country team will participate in the State Championship.

The Eagles came in seventh place in regionals after winning the District Championship earlier this season.

“Advancing to state was our goal from the beginning of the season,” said Head Coach Mike Mauro. “To set a goal and achieve shows the passion, dedication, and work ethic that the girls have put in since June.”

Individually, Devyn Sanders recorded the top time for MSD at 22.59.57 and came in 25th place.

Arianna Abreu was the second Eagle to finish and placed in 35th, while Morgan Melchiorri, Grace MacKenzie, and Sofia Schorer Kaplan all completed the race within eight spots of each other. Taylor Wonton was the final MSD runner to compete.

Up next, the Eagles will run in states at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on Friday, November 12, which then hosts the NCAA Division I tournament a week later.

While the boys did not advance, they still had six runners compete after placing second in Districts. Lucas Marrink had the top time for MSD at 20:28.01. Quinn McCluskey finished five spots back while four other MSD runners ran in Teyve Singh, Andres Abreu, Connor Greep, and Connor Mazzilli.
