After winning both a State and National Championship with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team in 2021, Dillon Moquin is taking the next step to becoming a big-league star after committing to Appalachian State University.
“It’s a great honor and feeling to know that after high school, my baseball career will still live on,” Moquin said. “Ever since I was a young boy, it was my dream to play college baseball, and to finally fulfill that, is a special feeling.”
Moquin saw occasional playing time as a sophomore and excelled on the base path. He was six for six stealing bases and scored 17 runs despite only having eight at-bats.
His journey of playing baseball started at age four. Moquin played t-ball, coach pitch, and then bounced around playing little league in Sunrise and Tamarac.
However, he first met his varsity coach, Todd Fitz-Gerald, in travel ball. Moquin started out playing for the Florida Pokers before playing for HOF-Fitz. Currently, he is also playing on the Eagles Scout baseball team.
For Moquin, though, he knows none of this would be possible without his family. His mother, Lesli, and father, Jeff, have supported him in everything while his sister, Chloe, has been there the entire time.
Moquin’s decision to attend Appalachian State after he graduates in 2023 started roughly a year ago. After researching possible degrees, Appalachian State was one of the first schools to show up. After seeing the facilities and speaking to the coaching staff, Moquin said the decision was easy.
He will still have two more years left on the varsity team. MSD will be hoping to repeat as State Champions again.
