Parkland has produced yet another collegiate-level athlete after Michelle Berndt signed to play soccer at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.
She will be joining a program that went 16-2-2 in 2021 and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
“It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders,” Berndt said. “The recruiting process had been very stressful with COVID, so hearing the school I wanted to go to really wanted me was an amazing experience.”
Berndt moved from Washington State to Coral Springs when she was three years old. She attended Coral Springs Charter for middle, then moved to Heron Preserve in Parkland during her freshmen year of high school, where she played her only year of varsity soccer.
Berndt began playing for the Florida United Development Academy soccer team and competed with Coral Springs United, FC Florida, FC Prime, and the Puerto Rican Youth National Team.
Berndt plans to major in biology and then become an officer in the army medical corps though a scholarship received from ROTC. She hopes to work in molecular biology or agricultural biology.
