While most students are on holiday break, the Borth Broward Prep basketball team was back on the court competing at the Sun Bash Tournament in Tampa.
The Eagles finished with a record of 2-1. Despite falling to one of the top teams in Brooklyn in the first game on Tuesday, NBP responded with a 55-25 over Wharton High School (Tampa) the next day and then a 57-44 victory over Northshore High School (Louisiana) on Thursday.
Leading the way offensively for NBP has been senior guard Ryan Weiss. He came into the tournament averaging a season-high 16.2 points per game and has been lights out shooting the three-pointer with a game-high 27 in their first game.
Enrico Borio was named Player of the Game in their win over Wharton with 16 points and eight rebounds. In comparison, freshman Junxi Yang was terrific defensively coming off the bench and added seven points against Northshore. Head Coach Casey Wohlleb has also been highly impressed with the play of Raul Perez in the last three games.

“We put together four really good quarters against Wharton and then followed that up with a strong win to make it two straight, said Head Coach Casey Woohlleb. “It was a 10 am start and our third game in three days. We played solid. We got stops, kept the ball moving, and made shots.”
The Eagles are now 8-5 this year, while the junior varsity team is undefeated with a 7-0 record. They have victories over Miami Country Day, NSU U School, Belen Jesuit, Somerset Academy, St. John Paul, Westminister Academy, and Somerset Canyons. The Eagles have scored 483 points this year and have won by an average of nearly 33 points per game.
Next, the varsity team will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan 3, against American Heritage at 6 pm. The Stallions are 3-6 this year with wins over West Boca Raton High School, Oxbridge Academy, and Somerset Academy.
