The Parkland City Commission will undergo changes this upcoming election year.

Commissioner Stacy Kagan’s announcement she was running for Parkland mayor after Mayor Christine Hunschofsky decided to run for House Seat 96, leaves two open seats on the commission this November.
But that’s not all. Vice Mayor Robert Mayersohn and Commissioner Kenneth Cutler are up for reelection, which leaves Seats 4 and 3 vulnerable.
Commissioner Richard Walker elected to Seat 2, is the only seat that isn’t open or up for reelection; however, that could change as there are whispers he may throw his hat into the mayoral race.
Commissioners, including the vice mayor, earn an annual salary of $32,735 plus healthcare $8,333, car allowance $3,600, and phone allowance $600 for a package of $45,268.
Except for mayor, those who are interested in running must live in the district of that particular seat. However, anyone in the city may vote for that candidate. The mayor is required to reside in the city for at least a year before seeking office.

The qualifying period is from noon on June 8 to noon on June 12 for Seats 3 and 4. a qualifying date for mayor will not be announced until Hunschofsky officially resigns.
