MSD Drama led by theater teacher Melody Herzfeld was honored by the Parkland Mayor and City Commission on May 17 on their awards which were announced that evening.

The Critics’ Awards Program, or Cappies for short, celebrated outstanding achievement in high school theater when students from 25 public and private schools throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties vied for top honors.
Top nominee was Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with 24 nominations, including 19 for its musical production of Annie. JP Taravella in Coral Springs took home three, including two for their production of Cinderella.
Held on May 16, in the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Cappies are modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, and featured songs and scenes from the top-nominated shows recognizing the best in high school theatre in 42 categories encompassing awards for performers, designers, technicians and critics.

Sophomore Critic – Alex Wind, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School
Senior Critic – Taylor Fish, Marjory Stoneman Douglas
