Coconut Creek will have new voting districts.
During the June 11 meeting, the commission approved an ordinance on first reading to revise the boundaries of city commission voting districts and to accept the 2026 Redistricting Board’s recommendation, according to city information.
The revised districts will apply to candidate qualifications for the March 13, 2029, election.
This means revising the legal boundaries of the five commission districts and establishing four larger voting districts, with a mayor elected at-large. Currently, five commissioners are elected from their districts, and the commission votes for a mayor and vice mayor.
The revised commission voting districts will be effective for candidate qualification for the March 13, 2029, election only, on March 13, 2028, and permanently for swearing in of future commissioner service and elections, on March 22, 2029, according to city information.
Vice Mayor John Brodie praised the board’s work and said its recommendations were good for the city. He said the new districts will allow future commissioners to better represent their residents.
