Coconut Creek residents will soon see construction work along the Sawgrass Expressway and Lyons Road.
During the June 25 meeting, the commission approved a resolution awarding ConstructionX an $89,289 contract for the drainage project.
The city is responsible for maintaining the drainage system along Sawgrass Boulevard west of Lyons Road and for providing surface water management services that reduce localized roadway flooding and enhance public safety, according to city information.
The project consists of drainage improvements within the southwest quadrant of Sawgrass Boulevard and Lyons Road, including the installation of a drainage structure, associated piping, and sidewalk improvements, according to Randall Blanchette of the Utilities and Engineering Department.
The Sawgrass Boulevard drainage improvement project will address flooding north of the entrance to the El Dorado Plaza, which poses a safety hazard for drivers due to debris accumulation. The design will restore the existing lanes and sidewalks to current code, according to Blanchette.
Blanchette said the work will take about five months to complete. “We are looking forward to an improved drainage system,” said Blanchette.
Commissioner Joshua Rydell said the area where the work will be done has experienced significant flash flooding, and cars have been flooded out. “This is a great project,” he said, adding that it will help address the problem.
