A 10-year-old girl was riding her bike alone in Parkland’s Watercrest community around 11 a.m. on May 1, when she was allegedly involved in a possible abduction.
According to the girl’s father, a man came out of a white van and tried to grab her from behind. She kicked him in the knee and fled.
The victim has scratches on her neck but otherwise was unharmed.
The girl’s mother posted the following on social media, “I drove around with a bat looking for this guy, but I couldn’t find, lucky for me cause otherwise, I would probably be in jail.”
Captain Chris Mulligan of Broward Sheriff’s Office said, “We are investigating a possible abduction, and I don’t have anymore I can share with you at this point.”
On May 1, at 5:30 p.m., BSO said there was nothing new to report.
“We are continuing to develop leads and the investigation is ongoing,” said Mulligan.
Watercrest residents grew concerned after seeing police cars and a helicopter circling the neighborhood prior to noon on Friday. Their security is currently reviewing gate surveillance video for further information.
Mulligan wanted to remind families that BSO always recommends parents supervise outdoor play based on age appropriateness.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
