Anthony Rizzo Involved in Stunning Trade From Chicago Cubs

World Series Champ and first basemen Anthony Rizzo is on the move after being traded to the New York Yankees Thursday night.

Rizzo, who graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 2007, is in the final year of his contract, and with the Chicago Cubs out of the playoff race, Team President, Jed Hoyer, decided to send his first basemen to New York.

Rizzo has had another strong season despite missing time this year with a back injury. The 31-year-old slugger has 14 home runs and has driven in 40 runs. Rizzo was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and was involved in a trade with All-Star first basemen Adrian Gonzalez in 2010.

He has since played 1,308 of his 1,357 career games with the Cubs, winning a World Series in 2016. Rizzo finishes his time on Chicago sixth in franchise history in home runs (242), 13th in RBI’s (784), as well as 13th in doubles (276).

Up next, he will be playing for a team in the Yankees that recently acquired slugger Joey Gallo in a trade. The Yankees are coming off a dreadful 14-0 loss Thursday afternoon and sit nine games back of the Red Sox for first place in the AL East.
