Delaney Mulligan is passionate about music and has achieved significant honors as a flute player in the Lyons Creek Middle School advanced band.
An eighth grader with a 3.5 grade point average, she recently earned a superior rating at a solo ensemble competition and earned a place in the all-county band. “I love music and being a member of the band. It was a good feeling to earn a superior,” she said.

Another top musician at Lyons Creek is Leah Rudas, an eighth-grade flute player who earned a superior rating and a place in the all-county band. She has worked hard over the years to succeed as a musician and is proud of her success.
The advanced band includes many dedicated musicians eager to put in long hours of practice to succeed. They recently performed for Broward County Public Schools and community leaders during a ribbon-cutting event. Some of the top musicians performed solos, and then the entire band performed.
The Lyons Creek band program has a new director, Jorge Fernandez, looking forward to improving the program. He directs intermediate and beginning bands along with a pep band, jazz band and color guard. The advanced band is selective, and students must audition to be part of it.

“We have a good music program here, and I want to improve it. We earned an excellent at the music performance assessment, but now I think the advanced band is playing at the superior level,” said Fernandez.
