An investigation remains open about the possible abduction in Parkland’s Watercrest community on May 1.
Allegedly, a 10-year-old girl was riding her bike alone when a man exited a white van and tried to grab her from behind. According to the report, she kicked him in the knee and fled.
The first incident of this nature to be reported in the Parkland area, deputies don’t know exactly what took place, and they are looking at all leads.
Captain Chris Mulligan of Broward Sheriff’s Office said detectives canvassed the area, reviewed video footage, and spoke to the property management company, and the president of the Homeowners Association.
He said they are not finished with their investigation, but assures residents they have not had any type of multiple abductions or attempts in the county.
In addition to Watercrest residents, parents in surrounding neighborhoods continue to share concerns on social media about how this could happen in a gated community.
In the meantime, Captain Mulligan advises parents to use this opportunity to have conversations with their children about what to do if an attempted abduction takes place, how to handle the situation and what to do to protect themselves.
