Coconut Creek High School has had a strong week, highlighted by their girls basketball team and Abigail Theopile.
After starting seasons 1-3, the Cougars beat Piper High School 59-31 for their second win. Theopile had a game-high 28 points, while My’Kylah Merrard added 11.
The Cougars had four other players record at least a point as they previously beat Pompano Beach High School for their first win on December 2 before falling against Coral Springs High School on Monday. They will return on January 9 against Hallandale High School at 6 p.m.
On Thursday, the boys’ soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Coral Springs High School. They improved and are 8-2-2 this year. They are currently ranked 400th nationally and had won over McArthur, Northeast, Hollywood Hills, Stranahan, Hallandale, Miramar, Dillard, and Northeast High School earlier this year.
The Cougars have scored 33 goals in their wins while allowing six. However, they have lost to Coral Glades and South Broward High School.
The boys basketball team is 1-4 this year and had their only victory against Hollywood Hills High School in their first game. Their losses came against St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Pompano Beach, Piper High School, and Coral Springs High School despite Zay Aliens leading the team with 20 points per game. Nash Youte is averaging 16, while Jahvon Jasmin has scored 13.
Coconut Creek also sent four players to the BCAA All-Star Game in football. Nimari Brantley, Standley Louis, Rashard Taylor, and T.J. Wilcox were selected as the Cougars went 4-6 this year. They beat Boyd H. Anderson, Deerfield Beach, Miramar, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The Cougars then went to the postseason and lost against Blanche Ely High School.
Brantley will play at Florida Atlantic University and finished the year as the leading tackler for the second straight season. He also went on to play in the Dade vs Broward All-Star Game. Louis had over 609 receiving yards, Taylor was a star on the offensive line, and Wilcox had over 1,000 yards.
