Residents may have seen Seminole police officers in their communities.
The commission passed a resolution at the January 22 meeting approving the renewal of a mutual aid agreement between the city and the Seminole Tribe of Florida, which provides law enforcement services.
Under Florida law, the Coconut Creek Police Department and other agencies have the authority to enter into a voluntary agreement for cooperation and assistance in routine law enforcement matters that cross jurisdictional lines. The city and the tribe had previously entered into a mutual aid agreement for law enforcement services that expired this year.
According to the resolution, because the city and the tribe are so close to each other, it is in both parties’ interests to provide mutual aid in law enforcement and resources to respond to multi-jurisdictional criminal and non-criminal activities and emergencies. The leaders of the city and the tribe believe this agreement is good for the health and safety of their residents and visitors. The agreement is in effect through August 1, 2030.
Coconut Creek will also add more vehicles to its contract with Vector Fleet Management.
The commission passed a resolution to amend an agreement with Vector Fleet Management for fleet management and maintenance services for the addition of 10 fire department vehicles. The contract is for $1,275,536, according to city information.
