Michael Rodriguez was sworn in as deputy fire chief for Coconut Creek during the November 14 commission meeting.
He is joining Coconut Creek after retiring from an over 20-year career with Delray Beach Fire Rescue.
“Being a firefighter is a rewarding career because you are helping people when they are facing a major problem. Because we work 24-hour shifts, we are away from our families for long periods,” said Rodriguez.
In 2002, he started working for Delray Beach as a paramedic and worked his way up to driver-engineer, captain, division chief, and assistant fire chief.
After retiring in 2022, he joined the administration at Boca Raton Hospital, but he missed being a firefighter. In 2023, he was hired by the Seminole Tribe Fire Rescue as a division chief.
“I am looking forward to serving the residents of Coconut Creek,” he said.
Rodriguez holds a bachelor’s degree in health science and nursing from Grand Valley State University and began his career as a nurse at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
