The Monarch High School football team dropped its opening game of the season 34-15 against Bolles High School out of Jacksonville in the Broward County High School Showcase on Thursday.
The knights started strong with Florentino Lopez recording a rushing touchdown. After Bolles High School tied the game, the Knights recorded a safety to take the lead 9-7, but went on to allow the following 20 points and trailed by 20 at halftime.
Each team would add a second-half touchdown as the Knights fell to 0-1. The Knights went 7-4 last year and had a win in their first playoff game. They also won 29-26 over Coconut Creek High School this year in the Kickoff Classic and will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Friday, August 29, at 6 p.m.
The Bucks played South Broward High School in their first game and had their only win last year come against Marjory Stoneman Douglas. Monarch also won 8-0 in the lone matchup last season.
The Knights, though, did have their star receiver named one of the Super 11 players in Broward County heading into the 2025 football season. This award recognizes the top 11 players in Broward County as the University of Missouri commit played on the varsity football team at Monarch, catching 43 passes for 864 yards, and went on to catch 70 passes for 1,392 yards and 10 touchdowns to begin his high school career. Brady then started his junior season at Chaminade-Madonna Prep, catching seven touchdowns in seven games for the Knights while also recording 485 yards.
