Monarch High School began celebrating its homecoming with a parade on the afternoon of October 7.
The football team, cheerleaders, marching band, and many of the school’s clubs marched along a road behind the school, concluding on the school’s track, where the band performed.
Principal James Cecil was pleased to see school spirit and students having a positive experience. “This is our first-ever homecoming parade, and I hope to do it again,” he said.
The cheerleaders enjoyed participating in the parade. “We had a good time at this parade, and I love to lead school spirit,” said cheerleading captain Gabriella Pope.
Members of the theatre department marched. “This was an exciting and fun event,” said director Tatiana Ahlbum.
New band director, Jorge Fernandez, led the complete band and said the program is continuing to improve. He said the program earned second place among large schools at the recent Falcon Sound Invitational.
“We are doing well as a band, and it was fun to be a part of this parade,” he said.

Mayor Jackie Railey and Commissioner Sandra Welch participated in the parade. Railey said she loved being a part of it.
