Monarch and Coconut Creek High School football lost their Friday matchups during Week 2.
The Knights fell for the first time, losing 33-32 against Atlantic High School in Port Orange. The Knights had a 12-point lead in the third quarter but could not hold on behind four rushing touchdowns from Da’Marion Alberic from the Eagles.
Brite Cannon II opened the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown. AJ Hairston then tossed his first touchdown pass to Samari Reed to make it 14-13 after one quarter.
Jabari Brady returned a 55-yard interception for a score and then caught a pass from Hairston to make it 26-20. Kevin Powell intercepted a pass, leading to a fifth touchdown for Monarch.
Monarch will play Hallandale High School in their next game on Thursday, September 7, at 7 p.m. The Chargers are 0-2 this year and had only two wins last season, including a loss against the Knights.
The Coconut Creek Cougars football team fell to 1-1 after losing in Georgia against Gainesville High School. Jamari Hotszclatw scored the opening two touchdowns, including a 64-yard score.
Next, the Cougars will play Western High School on Friday, September 8, at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are 1-0 this year and rank 28th in the country after recording a 14-10 win in their first game against Milton High School. Western won 10-3 in overtime during their only matchup.
