Alexa Schwartz of North Broward Prep capped off an incredible high school career and was named Athlete of the Year in track and field.
The Florida State signee won the State Championship in the javelin for the second straight year. She set a state record with a throw of 47.04 meters on her first attempt, which was also the sixth-best throw in the country.
Ella Munoz made the First Team and was a District Champion in the long and triple jumps. She went on to win Regionals in the long jump before placing third at the State Championship. Ysamar Pimentel finished fourth in the State Championship, the high jump, after top-five finishes at Districts and Regionals.
Ivory Edgecomb was picked to the second team in the 100 and 200 meters, while Ava Austad, Luciana Casacci, Victoria Despenbrock, Kaiden O’Neil, and Chelsea Ventura were Honorable Mentions. John Garrish was also selected as coach of the year.
The boy’s team had Willis picked to the First team in the 3,200 meters at Districts and dropped eight seconds off their personal best at FSU Relays. He went on to place 12th at the State Championship. Jayden Smith also made State after winning the District and Regional Championships. Zach Amelchenko, Danylo Babinchuk, Christopher Baker, Boston Nguyen, and Felix Ostamendy were Honorable Mentions
The baseball team won yet another District Championship and played 23 games before losing in Regionals. However, three players, Josiah Haslem, Kiernan O’Neil, and Max Burkholz, were named to the first team.
Haslem led the team with six home runs. He hit .321 with a 1.077 OPS, driving in a team-best 26 runs. He also pitched in six games and had a 1.35 ERA. O’Neill is a University of Central Florida signee who batted .351 with four home runs. He also had an ERA of .98, seven saves, and 19 strikeouts in 14.1 innings. Burkholz hit .500 with an on-base percentage of .664. He also slugged .662 with eight extra bases. Filippo Baldassarri was named to the Second Team. Logan Bristol, Nate Hernandez, and Jack Rostock were all named Honorable Mentions.
Max Freedman led the team to a Regional Semifinal Appearance and was named to the First Team. Coming off a title as a freshman, Freedman dominated once again this year and secured his spot in the State Championship. While his team won eight matches this year, he achieved success in both number-one singles and doubles.
He competed at the State Championship and was seeded second, earning himself a bye in the opening round. Freedman went on to win his quarterfinal Match 6-2, 6-1 before falling in the Semifinals. Sam Hammer, Patrick Ronveaux, Daniel Sheinfeld, and Jakob Stein were Honorable Mentions.
