The Monarch High School football team overwhelmed Charles W. Flanagan High School on Thursday night, cruising to a 56-6 win.
The Knights started slowly but struck first on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jeremiah Milcent to Chris Cortinas to take a 7-0 lead. The Falcons responded with their only touchdown of the game to cut the deficit to one before Monarch took control with three more first-half touchdowns.
Keshawn Paschall scored on an eight-yard run before Anthony Williams intercepted a pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown. Milcent then connected with Sanjae Fisher for a 15-yard touchdown pass, giving the Knights a 28-6 halftime lead.
Monarch continued its dominance in the second half with four more touchdowns. Milcent threw a screen pass to Bryan Bynes, who raced 89 yards for a score, before Jaden Diaz returned an interception 82 yards for another touchdown.
Fisher added his second touchdown of the game on a 33-yard pass from Milcent before Mason Hall entered at quarterback and connected with Bynes for an 82-yard touchdown. Bynes also surpassed 1,000 receiving yards for the season.
Despite finishing the regular season at 5-5, Monarch earned a home playoff game after facing one of the toughest schedules in the state. The Knights also beat Miramar, Cardinal Gibbons, Deerfield Beach and Olympic Heights Community High School.
Monarch will now await the playoff selection show and have a week off before beginning the postseason on November 13.
