Coconut Creek High School had a pair of teams competing in the District Championship, while their seniors were also recognized.
The track and field team competed in the District Championship, with the boys’ team finishing in seventh place, led by Randy Whitehard, who came in fourth in the shot put. The Cougars also had their 4×800 relay team come in seventh, with Dudley Norcine, Juvens Joseph, Jeremiah Accius, and Robert Esper.
Coconut Creek also had Dudley Norcine place seventh in the 1600 meters while Paul Income placed seventh in the 110 hurdles. Karmari Huggins, Jeremiah Accius, and Alvaro Mondestin all came in eighth, with Accius, Jayden Jackson, and Darruyl Pluvoise placed in the top ten.
Jayda Washington led the girls team to a second-place finish in the long jump. Salaya Campbell, Farah Charles, Layla Levy, and Ruth Ann-Powell came in fifth in the 4 x 800 relay. Powell also finished seventh in the 400 meters with Sambell placing ninth in the javelin.
The flag football team recorded a dominating 32-6 win against Coral Springs High School in the first playoff game. The Cougars went on to fall 12-6 against Deerfield Beach High School and finished the season with a record of 6-9.
The boys volleyball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday, defeating Hallandale High School in four sets. The Cougars had previously won two sets against Everglades, along with one against Monarch High School, before earning their first victory.
The Cougars seniors are Roubince Foster, Kammeron Wignall, Robins Fleury Jr, Ivans Delien, Gabriel Bueso, Nolan Anderson and Jonathan Sanchez. Coconut Creek will finish the regular season with a matchup on Tuesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. against McArthur High School before playing their final match the following day at the same time against Coral Springs High School.
