The Coconut Creek commission approved the purchase of safety equipment at its December 11 meeting.
It approved a resolution for an agreement between the city and Thor Guard for the single-source purchase of lightning prediction and warning systems for three years.
For more than 20 years, the city has been using Thor Guard equipment for its lightning prediction and warning systems. These systems are located throughout the city’s parks and facilities to warn the public about the potential for lightning strikes in the area.
Updates to the city’s Thor Guard systems are necessary to ensure they use the latest available technology. The city had budgeted capital outlay funds in Fiscal Year 2025 to upgrade its lightning prediction systems.
Thor Guard received approval for four proposals to complete this work, including Sabal Pines Park ($27,520.00), Community Center ($27,555.00), the recreation complex ($24,605.00), and public works ($26,455.00), for a total cost of $106,135.00, according to a presentation by Harry Mautte, director of public works.
