
Cross Country RFunners Compete at State Championship. {NBP Athletics}
Coconut Creek High School’s fall sports season came to an end, while basketball and soccer are underway.
The Coconut Creek football team was beaten 44-13 against top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas High School and finished the season 9-3. The Cougars, though, improved their win total by five games, including a win over Mater Academy Charter in their opening postseason game.
The boys’ basketball team matched its win total from a season ago, beating Pompano Beach High School 80-59 in its first game. The Cougars were highlighted by a strong third quarter, during which they scored 29 points. However, they lost their next three games and will play West Broward High School on Tuesday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m.
The girls’ basketball team won 46-32 over Pompano Beach High School to begin the season and followed that up with a 49-8 win over Parkridge Christian High School. Coconut Creek went 7-11 last year and will play West Broward High School in their next game on Tuesday, December 2, at 6 p.m.
The boys’ soccer team has yet to lose this year, posting a 5-0-1 record. They beat Hollywood Hills High School 5-1 earlier in the week, with Joshua Palomeque, Bianneko Pierre, Kenneth Herrare, and Jordi Velasquez all scoring goals.
The Cougars, though, tied in their final game of the week against Plantation High School 2-2 after goals from Mike Milford and David Milton. Next, Coconut Creek will play South Plantation High School on Wednesday, December 3, at 5 p.m.
The girls’ soccer team is winless after forfeiting their first game against Miramar High School and then losing 3-0 to Blanche Ely High School. The Cougars are also scheduled to play South Plantation High School on Wednesday, December 3 at 7 p.m.
The state championship in cross country also took place, with the North Broward Prep boys team placing eighth at the State Championship with Willis Gillis placing third individually at 16:10. Caden Nassar was next to finish in 62, followed by Eric Levy, Caden Nassar, Levi Bekker, Ari Arbel, Jackson Rivers, and Daniel Robles at Appalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.
The boys basketball team is 4-0 following wins against Aubrey Rodgers, Pine Crest, Cooper City, and Blanche Ely High School, while the girls team is 3-1. After losing to Palmer Trinity High School in their first game, they knocked off Aubrey Rogers, Gibbs, and Thomas County Central High School. In soccer, the boys’ team is 2-2-2 following wins against Oxbridge Academy and St. John Paul II Academy. The girls’ team is 3-1-1 with wins against Martin Country Day School. Gulliver Prep and St. John Paul II Academy.
The hockey team is also dominant, starting the season 7-0 before going 2-1 in the NAPHL Showcase in Massachusetts. The Eagles outscored their opponents 15-8 in their two wins before suffering their first loss of the season against Central Storm.
