After 41 years of service to Coconut Creek, Eric Rupert has retired.
Rupert was honored by the commission at the January 8 meeting and was praised for his accomplishments in the Information Technology Department. He received a standing ovation.
A proclamation was read in his honor, describing some of his career milestones. Eric has overseen the development, modernization, and implementation of numerous technological innovations that have strengthened operational efficiency, ensured the continuity of essential public services, and transformed the City’s ability to serve its residents.
His most outstanding achievement has been the cultivation of a “can-do” culture within the Information Technology Department, an environment grounded in teamwork, problem-solving, integrity, and exceptional service, which has become the cornerstone of how the department operates, according to the proclamation.
Rupert began with Coconut Creek on July 16, 1984, as a computer operations programmer. He advanced through various leadership roles, progressing from data processor manager in 1986, to information systems manager in 1998, to information technology director in 2003, to chief technology director in 2013, and ultimately to information technology director in 2024.
Rupert’s retirement marks the culmination of a remarkable and distinguished career characterized by passion, dedication, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of Coconut Creek, according to the proclamation.
When Rupert began working with Coconut Creek, the current city hall had not yet been built, and he was using outdated computer technology, such as 8-inch floppy disks.
He is married to Nora Rupert, a member of the Broward County School Board.
“I will miss the people here. I am looking forward to doing some hiking and working on some projects,” he said.
