Coconut Creek and Monarch High School soccer teams faced off this week, featuring a pair of exciting games.
The Monarch boys soccer team defeated Coconut Creek 3-1, with Jack Steinbruckner, Agusto, and Tony Dos Santos all scoring for Monarch. The Knights improved to 4-1 this year. The Cougars responded with a 4-2 win against Hollywood Hills High School on Thursday to move to 2-2. Joshua Palomeque, Jovens Alexis, Mario Walter, and Dickinson Alexandre scored goals, while Cameron Henery and Alexandre had assists
The Coconut Creek girls soccer team lost to the Monarch girls soccer team 8-0 and then again on Thursday versus Hollywood Hills School. They have been outscored 33-0 and will return with the boys on Monday, December 4, against Miramar High School starting at 4:30 p.m.
The boys basketball team fell 74-35 against Everglades High School. McKevan Bell led the way with 11 points, while Jordan Weatherspoon and Fabrini Labrassere combined for 11. Panell Charles and Hinslee Propsrere each scored four, while Keyon Holtzclaw and Jaylen Hamm scored. Warren Noel also plays for Coconut Creek.
The Coconut Creek High School girls basketball team began their season in the 16th Annual Turkey Day Shootout on November 24-25.
The Cougars lost their first game 41-25 against Forest Hill High School before losing by three against Benjamin High School. In their first regular season game, Coconut Creek beat Everglades High School 45-6, with Abigail Theopile scoring 23 points and Keisha Juliet adding 10.
Coconut Creek went 5-17 last year and lost to Marjory Stoneman Douglas in the postseason. The rest of their team this year consists of Tessan Parchment, Devonique Thompson, Frantasia Jaques, Ma’Kylah Menard, Jayleen Flores, Frantasia Jaques, Arriah Eason, Destiny Dukes, Kourtney Collins, and Ama Innocent.
Next, both Coconut Creek basketball teams will play at Miramar High School on Monday, December 4. The girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30.
The Monarch boys basketball team won in their first game 52-51 against McArthur High School to move to 1-0 for the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Their team comprises Sanjay Dhanraj, Jerome Blangor, Maxwell Young, Brandon Lynn, Kensey Bewley, Tristan Philogene, Jamir Davis, Cody Dinnall, Kayden Williams and Nikyle Campbell.
The Knights went 5-15 last season and will play Everglades High School in their next game on Thursday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. The Gators are 1-1 this season, defeating King High School but losing to St. Petersburg after going 3-20 last year.
The Monarch girls basketball team fell 86-26 to McArthur High School in their first game. They went 13-8 last season and will play Deerfield Beach High School in their next game on Wednesday, December 6 at 6 p.m. The Bucks are coming off a season where they went 8-13 and opened their season against West Broward High School.
