North Broward Prep featured a historic senior class with three players ending high school with a trio of State Championships.
After winning a title in 2021 and 2022, these four players all made the State Final and lost before their incredible end to their senior year with another championship.
Riley Luft is an Appalachian Baseball signee who dominated offensively and on the mound. He batted .339 over four years and hit eight home runs, including five during his junior year. Luft also drove 74 runs while recording seven wins and 11 saves as a pitcher. He was the winning pitcher in the State Final this year against Westminster Christian Academy and finished with a .68 ERA as a senior.
“Our team has been through so much together, and we are so thankful to come out on top and take this one home, Luft said. “It wasn’t easy, but we did it.”
Gian De Castro is also signed to play at Arizona State University and hit six home runs in high school. He hit .321 as a junior and then increased his average by 62 points during his senior year. De Castro recorded 70 RBIs while also playing terrific defense at third base.
“It’s been a long year putting in the work each day, and for it to pay off means everything to me,” De Castro said.
AJ Cutler is signed with Union College and has hit a home run in each of the last three years. He hit a career-high .348 this season, 15 extra bases hit, and 55 RBIs playing first base and the outfield.
Ryan McPherson will play in the SEC with Mississippi State. Despite batting injuries the last two years, he put up historic numbers, going 11-0 with a 2.58 era. He also struck out 98 batters in 78 innings.
This year, the rest of the senior class contributed, with Nikolas Koorse winning two State Championships. He pitched in the State Final and went 4-0 this year with a 1.86 era. He signed with NSU University while Mateo Gray and T.J. Gramesty transferred into NBP before their junior year and won their first State Championship this year. Gray homered in the State Final and drove in their runs, and also went 11-0 on the mound. He hit two home runs and was only behind Gramesty with three. Gray is a UCF signee, and Gramesty is headed to Florida Atlantic University.
Bode Bryant is the final senior for NBP and won his first title this year. He made two appearances, including a start on Senior Night in an 11-2 win over Pembroke Pines Charter.
